About the Item

Artist Statement I absolutely love working with clay. Creating forms with a chunk of moist earth is a tangible way to cultivate beauty and delight. Through my work, I hope to touch people’s hearts and plant seeds of wonder. Each piece is double-sided, which lends an intriguing element that invites the viewer to look deeper and interact with the work. These sculptures are hand-built an inch at a time, which creates their unique texture. They are truly one of a kind. It’s a magical experience to watch them come into being beneath my hands. By not overly defining the form, I leave a lot of space for the imagery to arise in the glazing of a piece. I approach the surface in painterly style, mixing and layering dozens of glazes in ever changing combinations. The rich layers of color aren’t revealed until the kiln has its say. Sculpting with clay is a collaboration of earth, fire, hand and heart. In that dance is all the magic; it’s the creative process where mystery seeps in and new ways of seeing are born. I hope my work inspires a sense of joyful gratitude and helps connect us to the natural world, the sacred beauty of which we are a part. I feel so blessed to do what I love.
