About the Item

Chunky Dory is a work by contemporary Argentinian artist Marcelo Martin Burgos. Original artwork is limited edition of 6 sculptures and 2 artist's proofs, sold with a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist. Marcelo Burgos’ artistic universe is deeply inspired by the world of childhood. Dreams and nightmares from that formative time—populated by fantastical creatures, monsters, demons, and dragons—serve as his primary source of inspiration. His series The Robots emerged during the global lockdown at the start of 2020. While leading online drawing workshops for children, Marcelo Martin Burgos observed how the figure of a robot functions as an emotional avatar in a child’s imagination. Detached and mechanical, the robot becomes a figure children can project onto—especially during moments of anxiety and uncertainty. This emotionally neutral character also provides a compelling artistic opportunity: it allows the creation of rigid, geometric forms that are nevertheless charged with the emotional resonance of childhood. Burgos primarily works in bronze, a material he values for both its nobility and versatility. Through his work, he invites viewers to reconnect with childhood as a “golden age” of freedom, joy, creativity—and also fear. “My aim,” he says, “is to conjure images and emotions that remind us of the most creative, astonishing, and terrifying years of our lives: the golden age of childhood.”
