Michael Jackson "The Wiz" Bronze Costume Design Oscar Nomination King of Pop Tony Walton (1934-2002) Michael Jackson Costume Sculpture "The Wiz" Bronze, 1978 12 1/2 x 6 x 3 1/2 inches Unsigned Provenance: Tony Walton Estate An bronze sculpture by Tony Walton of the Scarecrow costume worn by Michael Jackson in the 1978 film version of "The Wiz." Together with the sculpture included is a sheet with nine candid photographs of a young Michael Jackson at the costume fitting. Each image is about 4 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches and mounted to a larger sheet. The bronze and photo sheet will be shipped separately. BIO Tony Walton was a director and designer, honored with 16 Tony Award nominations for his Broadway sets and/or costumes. "Pippin," "House of Blue Leaves" and "Guys and Dolls" won him Tonys. Among his 20 films, “Mary Poppins”, “The Boy Friend”, “The Wiz” and “Murder on the Orient Express” earned him five Academy Award nominations. “All That Jazz” won him the Oscar and “Death of a Salesman” the Emmy. In 1983, Diana Ross, the star of the film "The Wiz," chose Walton to design the stage set for her 1983 Central Park concert, "For One & For All". Previous designs for the world of Dickens include those for ten years of annual presentations of "A Christmas Carol" at Madison Square Garden. In 1991 he was elected to the Theatre Hall of Fame.
