Today, interior designers are asked to carve out spaces for just about everything but work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Music rooms, libraries, game rooms and conversation pits are enjoying a renaissance as homeowners look to add areas that prioritize presence over productivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They\u2019re being called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/collections\/analog-spaces\/\">\u201canalog\u201d spaces<\/a>: interiors conceived around tactile, screen-free pursuits, whether that\u2019s sinking into a novel, queuing up a favorite record, challenging a friend to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/buy\/backgammon-tables\/\">backgammon<\/a> or simply hanging out with a favorite drink in hand.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/photo\/contemporary-craftsman-eclectic-bar-and-game-room-west-hollywood-ca\/5987952\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"760\" height=\"950\" src=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/blogs\/the-study\/wp-content\/uploads\/Huntley_35.2-760x950.jpg\" alt=\"Kevin Klein Design interior. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/buy\/record-player-record-player\/\">record player<\/a> becomes a reason to gather. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/buy\/chess-board\/\">chessboard<\/a> stays out instead of being stowed away. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/buy\/grand-pianos\/\">grand piano<\/a> gets played rather than serving as mere decoration. Even the humblest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/buy\/playing-cards\/\">deck of cards<\/a> can justify dedicating square footage to connection in lieu of consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rooms that follow prove that analog living doesn\u2019t require rejecting technology outright. Nestled between the home\u2019s entertaining spaces and its private quarters, the transitional space pairs floor-to-ceiling ebony oak shelving with books, art and collectibles that invite browsing and discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At its center is a 1978 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/creators\/paul-evans\/furniture\/\">Paul Evans\u200b Studio<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/creators\/directional\/furniture\/\">Directional<\/a> backgammon table, crafted from chrome-plated steel, suede, aluminum and acrylic. \u201cThe\u200b table transforms the room from somewhere you simply sit into somewhere you interact, encouraging conversation, friendly competition and genuine connection,\u201d Godbold says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An antique <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/art\/paintings\/landscape-paintings\/\">landscape painting<\/a> softens the moody-toned millwork, while an oversize chandelier serves as a contemporary counterpoint. \u201cRather than designing a formal library, I wanted to create a room that encourages people to linger,\u201d the designer says. \u201cEvery piece was chosen to make the room feel collected over time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/photo\/western-rustic-bar-and-game-room-wy\/7901152\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"950\" height=\"633\" src=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/blogs\/the-study\/wp-content\/uploads\/082620_AndreaSchumacher_RemountRanch0299-950x633.jpg\" alt=\" Andrea Schumacher Interiors. It sits adjacent to the original bar from the 1800s.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A vintage newspaper-print wallcovering pays tribute to the ranch\u2019s storied past as the former home of <em>My Friend Flicka<\/em> author Mary O\u2019Hara, and the REMOUNT marquee sign nods to roadside Americana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, a powder-blue pool table, lit by a six-armed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/creators\/ralph-lauren\/furniture\/\">Ralph Lauren<\/a> pendant, skews from the room\u2019s Western palette, the vivid felt cutting against the reclaimed timber, native stone, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/furniture\/rugs-carpets\/material\/cowhide\/\">cowhide rug<\/a> and contemporary cowboy art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/buy\/pool-tables\/\">billiards table<\/a> naturally draws people together, whether they\u2019re playing a game, teaching someone new or simply gathering around to watch,\u201d Schumacher says. \u201cWe customized the felt color to match the long upholstered banquette, which encourages guests to tell stories and enjoy one another\u2019s company.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/photo\/contemporary-living-room-london-gb\/9456082\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"713\" height=\"950\" src=\"https:\/\/www.1stdibs.mom\/blogs\/the-study\/wp-content\/uploads\/KRL408-Studio-Ashby-Spencer-Park-Road-24-929-713x950.jpg\" alt=\"Studio Ashby.
