Art and design have always played a large role in Chuck Krause’s life. Raised in a home with modern art, sculptures, graphic and contemporary furniture, his appreciation for minimalist design grew from childhood. Krause worked at commercial art and graphic design studios and an architectural firm, while developing his designs and techniques. Self-taught, he learned how to work with various materials and experimented with screen printing, photography, woodworking and metalworking. Designing and repurposing objects with an appreciation for history and material culture has been a lifelong process and a passion which continues to be evident in his present work. Krause cites influences in the decorative arts including Alvar Aalto, Charles and Ray Eames, etc. In the visual arts, Krause’s influences are as varied as Lillian Bassman, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Chuck Close, etc.

The Turner 33D with heavy deco influence and outrageous style that set it apart from every other microphone ever designed. The 33 series was first introduced in the 1940's and had a run of 20 years. The first generation 33 mics had a rounded lower pistol grip while the 2nd generation had the flat rectangular lower pistol grip. Otherwise, the microphone looked the same. The 33 series also came with either a crystal or dynamic element. The crystal elements were inferior and wore out over time while the dynamic elements sounded much better and tended to last over the decades. The satin chrome has a slightly pitted finish with a few lite scratches. Some small chrome loss on the lower pistol grip but all around a good looking 33D. The black cloth screen has minor imperfections. Overall this is cosmetically a 7 on a scale of 1 - 10 and very worthy of any vintage mic...
