John Duffin Art

John Duffin is a painter and printmaker whose work is based on the modern environments of cities and towns, creating dynamic and cinematic images of contemporary urban life. His unique images of architecture, lighting and figures have been greatly praised and awarded, recently receiving the Most Outstanding Print Award from Sir Peter Blake. He has a distinctive artistic voice and has much to say in his work about contemporary life in all of its manifestations. His work is in the tradition of LS Lowry in Britain and Edward Hopper in America and like these artists, he creates unique views of contemporary urban life, a combination of his ability as a draughtsman, his imagination and his personal use of perspective and color. Duffin makes drawings and watercolors in front of his chosen subject and takes these sketches back to his London studio, where he creates from them his imaginative interpretation of the site, recreating the place anew via his imagination. Duffin's work is redolent with influences from cinema, graphic novels and the history of figurative painting, but from this comes a vision that is his alone.

'King's Cross Station is a place of great significance to me, many departures and arrivals have taken place at this station. I love it's gothic architecture and sheer drama right in the centre of London. Eternal thanks to Poet Laureate John Betjeman for campaigning to save it from demolition, I look forward to many future journeys from this cathedral of travel.' The Beach in Normandy, France, Near Bayeux: A 19th C. Etching by Maxime Lalanne

By Maxime Lalanne

Located in Alamo, CA

This is a mid 19th century etching entitled "Point de Depart de Guillaume de Normandie, Beuzeval, Emboucher de la Dives Calvados (The point of departure of William of Normandy (William the Conqueror)), created by Maxime Lalanne and published in 'L'Illustration Nouvelle' in 1868 by Alfred Cadart. The etching depicts the beach at Beuzeval in Normandy; with the shore in the foreground on the right lined by a row of houses, the sea at the left, and an expansive sky above. There are people on the beach and sailboats in the water. This is the point of departure of William the Conqueror for his voyage to England in 1066, resulting in his victory over the Anglo-Saxons at the Battle of Hastings and the establishment of Norman rule. The events are memorialized in the Bayeux tapestry, created by William's wife. This etching is presented in a white mat that is suitable for framing. This excellent impression is printed on thick chain-linked, laid cream-colored paper with wide margins. It is signed in plate in the lower right and titled in the plate in the lower left. There is a collector's stamp (either an "NC" or a "CN") in the lower right corner. The sheet measures 9.5" high by 12.75" wide and the mat measures 13.5" high by 16" wide. There are two tiny faint spots in the periphery of the upper margin, but the print is otherwise in excellent condition. This etching is held by many museums and institutions, including The British Museum, The Yale University Art Gallery, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, Columbia University Libraries and The William Morris Gallery...

1975 Andrew Dasburg Color Lithograph, "Trees in Ranchitos II" Taos Modernist

By Andrew Michael Dasburg

Located in Denver, CO

"Trees in Ranchitos II" is a striking 1975 color lithograph by acclaimed modernist artist Andrew Michael Dasburg (1887–1979). This collectible artwork, initialed in the lower right, beautifully captures the serene landscapes of New Mexico, reflecting Dasburg’s signature fusion of Post-Impressionism and Cubist influences. The composition conveys the tranquil rhythm of trees and desert terrain, combining geometric abstraction with lyrical naturalism. The lithograph is presented in a custom frame measuring 30 ½ x 36 ¼ inches, with an image size of 16 ½ x 23 ¼ inches, making it a sophisticated and visually compelling addition to any collection of Taos Modernist art, American modernism, or Southwestern landscape prints. About Andrew Michael Dasburg (1887–1979): Born in Paris, France, Dasburg immigrated to New York City in 1892, where his early talent was recognized. He trained at the Art Students League of New York under notable instructors including Robert Henri, Kenyon Cox, and Birge Harrison. In 1908, he returned to Paris and encountered the works of Henri Matisse and Paul Cézanne, experiences that ignited his lifelong commitment to modernism. After settling in Woodstock, NY, Dasburg immersed himself in the avant-garde scene, collaborating with Morgan Russell...

Four Framed Hogarth Engravings "Four Times of the Day"
Four Framed Hogarth Engravings "Four Times of the Day"

Four Framed Hogarth Engravings "Four Times of the Day"

By William Hogarth

Located in Alamo, CA

The four plates in this "Four Times of the Day" set were created utilizing both engraving and etching techniques by William Hogarth in 1738. Hogarth's original copper plates were refurbished where needed by James Heath and these engravings were republished in London in 1822 by Braddock, Cradock & Joy. This was the last time Hogarth's original copper plates were used for printing. Most were melted down during World War I for the construction of bombs. Printed upon early nineteenth century wove paper and with large, full margins as published by William Heath in 1822. The inscription below each print reads "Invented Painted & Engraved by Wm. Hogarth & Publish'd March 25. 1738 according to Act of Parliament". These large folio sized "Four Times of the Day" engravings/etchings are presented in complex gold-colored wood frames with black bands and scalloped gold inner trim. A majority of each thick impressive frame is covered with glass applied near the outer edge. Each frame measures 25.75" high, 22.25" wide and 1.88" deep. There are a few small dents in the edge of these frames, which are otherwise in very good condition. "Morning" has two focal areas of discoloration in the upper margin and some discoloration in the right margin, a short tear in the left margin and a short tear or crease in the right margin. "Noon" has a spot in the upper margin that extends into the upper image, but it is otherwise in very good condition. "Evening" has a faint spot in the upper margin, but it is otherwise in very good condition. "Night" is in excellent condition. The "Four Times of the Day" series is in the collection of many major museums, including: The British Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Tate Museum, The Chicago Art Institute and The Victoria and Albert Museum. Through this series Hogarth is portraying early 18th century London street life at "Four Times of the Day". His characters are exhibiting their personalities, quircks, strange activities, but he also wants to draw attention the disparities between the wealthy aristocracy and the common working class. Plate 1, "Morning" depicts morning in Covent Garden in the winter in front of Tom King...

Mediterranean Coastal Landscape Mallorca Seascape Impressionist Oil Painting Artist: Josep Solé Pujol (1919-2000) Title: Mallorca Coastal Landscape Medium: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 54 x 65 cm (21.3 x 25.6 in) Signature: Signed lower left Date: Circa 1965 Condition: Good overall condition consistent with age Frame: Unframed Style: Impressionist, Mediterranean Landscape Origin: Spain Description A luminous Mediterranean coastal landscape painted by Spanish artist Josep Solé Pujol, capturing the tranquil beauty of the Mallorcan coastline. The composition presents a secluded cove framed by rugged cliffs and crystalline turquoise waters, bathed in the warm light characteristic of the Balearic Islands. Solé Pujol employs fluid brushwork and subtle atmospheric transitions to create a scene that feels both spontaneous and timeless. The painting successfully combines the freshness of plein-air observation with a refined impressionistic sensitivity. The interplay of sunlight across the rocks, sea and sky creates an inviting sense of calm, while the vibrant palette evokes the unmistakable charm of the Mediterranean. Works depicting Mallorca remain highly sought after among collectors of Spanish landscape painting due to their decorative appeal, universal subject matter and enduring connection to one of Europe's most celebrated artistic destinations. An attractive example of mid-century Spanish Mediterranean painting, ideal for collectors seeking coastal art, seaside interiors and authentic European landscape works. Biography Josep Solé Pujol (1919-2000) was a Spanish painter known for his Mediterranean landscapes, coastal views and atmospheric interpretations of the Spanish countryside. His work reflects a strong connection to the light, color and natural beauty of the Mediterranean region. Throughout his career he developed a recognizable style characterized by expressive brushwork, harmonious color relationships and a poetic approach to landscape painting. His works continue to attract collectors interested in twentieth-century Spanish art and Mediterranean decorative painting. Artistic Inspiration This work recalls the Mediterranean vision of painters such as Joaquín Sorolla, Hermen Anglada Camarasa and Santiago Rusiñol through its treatment of light, atmosphere and coastal scenery. The composition also resonates with the tradition of European impressionist seascapes that celebrate color, tranquility and the relationship between land and sea. Mediterranean painting, Mallorca painting...
