About the Item

This fine 1940s flecked grey wool jacket retailed in high end American department store Schleisner and Co, Baltimore. There is a small additional label inside from the Coat and Suit Industry National Recovery Board which was a Union-made label used from 1936-1972. This darted and contoured jacket features a rounded v-neckline, with an overlapping button closure, and a further four pearlescent buttons running down the front. It has sloped seamed shoulders with slight padding to add structure, finished off with a button to each cuff. The rear of the garment is cut in a slight V shape, almost reminiscent of a riding jacket, and finished with another button. There is a tiny concealed 'train ticket' pocket on the left hand side whilst the inside of the jacket is lined with a soft, mink-coloured silk/rayon blend crepe. Perfectly tailored and in superb vintage condition for a garment that is now around 80 years old. I noted two very small areas where the fabric has been 'grazed' which blend in so well I had to go over the jacket 3 times before I spotted them. Absolutely not seen when worn. Best fit for around a UK 8 or US 4. Our model's sizes are: Bust: 33" (84cm), Waist 26" (66cm), Hips: 34" (86cm) and 5' 7" (170cm) and she's a size UK 6-8, US 2-4. This was a great fit on her with some room to spare. MEASUREMENTS Bust - 36in. ( 91.5cm) Waist - 27in. ( 68.58cm) Length - 21in. (53.34 cm) Shoulders - 16in. (40.7cm) Sleeve Length - 22in. (55.88cm)
