About the Item

As Japanese designers began to become more prominent in the global scale of fashion, a resurgence of desire for oriental styles reemerged in the mid-century to the 1970s. Notably different from the close fitting, and more tailored styles of the west, kimono, the traditional garb of Japan provided a stunning contrast to the western norm especially as world cultures increasingly melded together. Done from a silk shibori, this kimono jacket is done in the Haori style, a shorter version of the more commonly known kimonos. On a muted gold ground, melodic stripes of burnt-orange and yellow-orange streak across the fabric giving it a warm aesthetic that contrasts the delicate drape of the silk. A soft shoulder gently careens into the voluminous dropped sleeve. With no closures, this jacket can be exquisitely styled with a dainty belt or sash, or can be worn open to take full advantage of the dramatic drape. Size estimate: One size fits most Sleeves: 23 (measured from the neckline) Bust, waist, hips: 50 inches Length: 31 Fully lined, the interior dons a cream silk lining with softly printed shoots of bamboo done in sepia. For a more unexpected look, the kimono can be worn reversibly to showcase the demure printed silk on the interior. In excellent condition, this kimono has been professionally cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself. /

Vintage Japanese Magenta Silk Print Kimono Jacket

Vintage Japanese Magenta Silk Print Kimono Jacket

Located in Boca Raton, FL

Widespread ideas about globalization were characteristic of the 1970s. Combined with the new fashion movements that relied on the use of vivid color, inspiration from Japanese dress fit this aesthetic. The traditional Japanese kimono, often featuring vivid yet pastel hues and floral embroidery is reimaged in this vintage recreation. Done in silk, this garment showcases an avian motif with tones of blush, red-orange, cornflower, green, and gold with oriental styled clouds in the background. This motif is bordered by panels of solid fuchsia. Unlike the original kimono, this garment has a loose, careening fit that would work great as an easy cover up or light jacket addition to add a bright pop of color to any outfit. Size estimate: One size fits most Bust: 40 inches Length: 38 inches The interior is fully lined in the fuchsia silk which makes this kimono reversible...
