About the Item

A finely cast antique Himalayan bronze sculpture depicting a bodhisattva seated atop a richly caparisoned elephant, elevated on a double lotus pedestal and framed by a pierced foliate aureole. The figure is rendered with serene expression, elaborate crown, and flowing robes, exemplifying the refined craftsmanship associated with traditional Newari and Tibetan metalwork. #5094RM The elephant—symbolic of wisdom, strength, and spiritual steadfastness—is sculpted with careful attention to proportion and ornament, supporting the lotus throne with visual balance and symbolic gravitas. The sculpture is hollow cast using the lost-wax process, evident in the irregular interior and hand-finished surfaces, consistent with pre-industrial casting methods. The surface displays a deep, naturally developed patina with warm bronze tones, darkened areas, and scattered turquoise oxidation, reflecting age and devotional handling rather than artificial antiquing. The pierced aureole and integral base construction further distinguish the piece from later decorative or tourist-market bronzes. This sculpture represents an above-average example of late 19th–early 20th century Himalayan Buddhist art, suitable for advanced collectors, serious interiors, or curated Asian art collections. Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear, oxidation, and surface variation. No apparent structural repairs or modern alterations observed. Origin: Himalayan region (Nepal / Tibet) Circa: 1880–1925 Material: Hollow-cast bronze (lost-wax technique) Dimensions: 10"W x 6"D x 15"H.
