This rare large scale cast bronze bell has a splendid sculptural and spiritual presence. The bell has a long inscription on the upper part. The offering of a bronze bell to a monastery or temple was considered second only to the offering of a Buddha image as an act of merit (kutho). Antique 19th Century Ottoman Turkish Tinned Copper Ewer Ibrik, Islamic Metalwork
Antique 19th Century Ottoman Turkish Tinned Copper Ewer Ibrik, Islamic Metalwork

Antique 19th Century Ottoman Turkish Tinned Copper Ewer Ibrik, Islamic Metalwork

Located in Moreno Valley, CA

A striking antique 19th-century Ottoman Turkish tinned-copper ewer, or ibrik, distinguished by its elegant architectural silhouette, elongated pouring spout and beautifully aged surface. Entirely handcrafted, the vessel features a rounded, vertically fluted body resting upon a circular foot. The body rises into a tall tapering neck articulated with molded bands and terminates in a hinged domed lid with a pointed finial. A dramatically elongated, slender curved spout extends upward from the body, balanced on the opposite side by a graceful looping metal handle. The surface retains substantial remnants of its original tin wash, now naturally worn through in areas to reveal the warmer copper beneath. This contrast between silvery tinning, exposed copper, oxidation and darkened patina gives the vessel considerable visual depth and is characteristic of antique utilitarian copperware that has survived generations of use. The body incorporates decorative panels and restrained engraved ornamentation, while the fluting, shaped neck and pronounced lid give the ewer a particularly sculptural quality. Its construction and proportions relate closely to Ottoman metalworking traditions found throughout Anatolia during the 19th century. Comparable surviving examples employ hand-hammered tinned copper, bulbous bodies, curved spouts, serpentine handles and hinged domed lids. Historically, vessels of this general type were made for the storage and pouring of water and other liquids. Today, its tall 16-inch height and exceptionally long spout make this example particularly effective as a decorative object. It would display beautifully on a console, pedestal, library shelf or alongside a collection of Islamic and Ottoman metalwork. The piece is preserved in original antique condition, with wear, oxidation, discoloration, irregularities and losses to the tinning consistent with its age and traditional handcrafted construction. These surface variations contribute to its authentic antique character and should not be mistaken for a modern polished finish. Dimensions: 16 in. H × 11 in. W × 6 in. D. Origin: Turkey / Ottoman Empire Period: 19th Century Date: circa 1850–1880 Materials: Tinned copper, copper, metal Techniques: Hand-hammered, hand-crafted, engraved, tinned Style: Ottoman / Islamic Condition: Good antique condition; wear consistent with age and use, oxidation, surface variation and losses to the original tinning. Ottoman Turkish ewer, antique Turkish ibrik, Ottoman copper pitcher, tinned copper ewer, 19th century Turkish metalwork, Islamic metalwork, antique Islamic ewer...

17th century Antique stone temple fragment - OriginalBuddhas

Located in DEVENTER, NL

Unearth the ancient whispers of India’s sacred architecture with this Antique stone temple fragment, a 17th-century relic (or possibly older) that carries the spiritual essence and artistry of a bygone era. Carved from natural stone, this enigmatic fragment measures 27.9 cm high, 7.5 cm wide, and 23.2 cm deep, its weathered surfaces etched with traces of intricate motifs—perhaps floral patterns, divine figures, or celestial symbols—that once adorned a grand Hindu or Jain temple. Originating from India, where temple construction flourished under dynastic patronage, this piece reflects the mastery of stonemasons who transformed rugged stone into narratives of devotion, likely part of a pillar, frieze, or sanctum wall. Weighing 2.1 kgs, its compact yet evocative form bears the patina of centuries, with softened edges and mineral deposits that testify to exposure to the elements and ritual use. The fragment’s abstract geometry and symbolic carvings hint at its original context, whether depicting deities like Shiva, Vishnu, or Tirthankaras, or cosmic themes central to Indian spirituality. Created during a period of architectural splendor under empires like the Mughals or regional kingdoms, it bridges the tangible and the divine, offering a tactile link to India’s temple...
