About the Item

This is an old vermilion suiseki from Japan. Not only in China but also in Japan, rocks from mountains have been quarried and shaped for appreciation since ancient times. These decorative stones are collectively known as "suiseki", which means "water" and "stone." The name originates from the tradition of pouring water over the stones to enhance their color and beauty. This stone is also a suiseki, but it is intended for appreciation without water. This item embodies a sense of artistic beauty. In Japanese, it is also referred to as "Akaishi" (red stone) due to its characteristic reddish hue, which comes from the presence of iron oxide in calcareous shale. Shale is a type of sedimentary rock formed by the accumulation of silt and clay, and its natural shape is highly captivating. The surface of the stone is smooth and glossy, with a rich luster that enhances its aesthetic appeal. It has a sleek, polished texture that feels pleasant to the touch.
