This commanding large-scale Burmese bronze Buddha exemplifies the timeless elegance of classical Buddhist sculpture inspired by the revered 11th–12th century tradition. Heavily cast and richly modeled, the figure displays balanced proportions, serene facial features, and finely articulated details characteristic of early Burmese and Shan-influenced bronze work. The Buddha is shown standing in a graceful posture, with one hand raised in abhaya mudra, symbolizing reassurance and protection, while the other hand extends downward in a gesture of generosity.o The surface bears a deeply layered, naturally aged patina with warm bronze tones and subtle verdigris highlights, suggesting considerable age and long-term devotional or architectural use. While stylistically rooted in early Pagan-period prototypes, extensive experience with Burmese sculpture indicates this example was most likely produced in the Shan States during the 17th–18th centuries, a time when master artisans consciously revived earlier sacred forms. It remains possible that the sculpture dates earlier, and collectors are encouraged to examine the detailed photographs closely. The Buddha stands approximately 28 inches tall, or 32 inches when presented with its lotus-form base. The sculpture is exceptionally heavy and substantial, underscoring its quality of casting and presence. The figure stands ]}on its own, and the base may be permanently affixed if desired, though it has been intentionally left untouched.
