About the Item

This Vintage Chinese Ceramic roof tile is 100% hand made and hand carved of Chinese traditional design. Roof tiles modeled in dragons and immortals are common on large houses, they are placed on ridges and roof edges as guardians and protectors of public buildings and private homes. This lustrous-colored Sancai roof tile is attributed to the early Qing era (1644-1911). It depicts a Taoist immortal solemnly riding on a green rooster above a circular tile with a guardian lion medallion. The rooster is the tenth sign of the Chinese zodiac. Its chief purpose is to produce an auspicious aura, which creates a positive cosmic current that would generate favorable Feng Shui that could enhance authority and rank in a career. It was used on top edges of building roof. Look at the pictures, there are some age wears and a small damage on it, but it still shows the beautiful patina.
