Lovely 18th century Biot jar in glazed terracotta from the South of France. Traditionally, Biot jars served to preserve olives, oils, wine and other food types. The rim of the jar and the interior are glazed in order to prevent what was being stored inside from seeping into the clay. A wonderful addition to any interior.
