About the Item

A beautifully hand-carved Swedish oak dough bowl, or tråg, dating to around 1850. Hewn from a single solid piece of oak, this authentic country piece displays a wonderful sculptural form with rich grain, deep patina, and the honest wear acquired through more than 170 years of use. Originally used for preparing bread dough, the bowl today makes a striking decorative object, equally suited as a centerpiece on a dining table, kitchen island, or console. The hand-carved construction, asymmetrical silhouette, and naturally aged surface celebrate the craftsmanship of 19th-century Swedish rural furniture. The bowl retains its original character with age-related wear, a warm patinated surface, and a stable natural drying crack, all consistent with its age and adding to its authenticity.
