About the Item

Shell-shaped ceramic bowl is glazed in red with complex variations in glaze color accentuating the intricate shape of the bowl. The bowl is signed on the bottom with "Italy 68105 PV". From 1950s to 1970s Bitossi pieces were marked in various ways, usually including the word "Italy" and the pattern number. A large number of pieces was made for exports, including exports to United States, to be sold under the name of the importer; Bitossi worked with several American importers, such as Rosenthal Netter and Raymor. PV stands for Peasant Village, New York based import firm of Mittledorfer-Strauss, who used PV logo from 1928 through 1960s. The bowl measures 13" wide, 12" deep, and 3.5" high. It is in excellent vintage condition.
