Known as a “Fasce” bowl, this design showcases the refined balance between artistry and engineering that defined Seguso’s mid-century output. Each stripe features a vibrant red core, cased in opalescent white and clear crystal, producing a layered, glowing effect with ethereal depth. The visual precision of the striping—maintained seamlessly across the undulating surface—reflects the extraordinary control and craftsmanship required in its creation. This piece hails from Murano, the famed Venetian island that has been the heart of fine glassmaking since the 13th century. For centuries, Murano’s master artisans were revered for their secret techniques and luxurious glassworks commissioned by royals, nobility, and the elite throughout Europe. By the 20th century, Murano experienced a design renaissance, combining traditional skill with modernist innovation. Archimede Seguso (1909–1999) was among the most important figures in that resurgence. Renowned for his mastery of sommerso, filigrana, reticello, and complex casing techniques, Seguso redefined Murano glass for the modern era. His work is celebrated for its balance of material clarity, color layering, and organic form—often achieving effects that seem impossible in glass.
