A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver Monteith style bowl; an addition to our range of collectable silverware This magnificent antique Edwardian silver bowl, in sterling standard, has a Monteith form onto a domed spreading foot. The body of this antique silver bowl is ornamented with subtle chased fluted decoration and an inverted scalloped border, all below an chased girdle. The decoration to the body incorporates a chased oval vacant cartouche accented with scrolling designs and segments of scale diaper work decoration. This exceptional example of antique silverware is fitted with two exceptional cast and applied handles, each fashioned in the form of lion's masks grasping a hallmarked drop-ring handle. The underside of each handle socket is further ornamented with a chased scrolling leaf design, reflecting the style of the cartouche border. The Monteith style rim is ornamented with an applied scrolling border accented with eight waisted drop designs. The foot of this silver bowl is ornamented with a band of chased fluted decoration. This magnificent and large bowl was crafted by the renowned London silversmiths Edward Barnard & Sons Ltd. Condition: This antique Edwardian silver bowl is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the bowl are all very clear in keeping with age and location. The part hallmarks to the handles have wear in keeping with age and location.
