About the Item

Mixed metal footed tray, created by Mexican silversmiths, features a Modernist abstract crab form with creab legs serving as tray's feet. The piece is decorated with a graphic pattern in abalone shell on the legs and eyes, with the body composed in brass, copper, silver, and bronze. The metals are seamlessly fused into one geometric patterned surface. The piece is standing on 6 ornate feet, 3 on each side of the crab's body, that add height and stability. The tray is in very good vintage condition with beautiful, age-appropriate patina. It is marked with the artist and foundry stamps, as well as MEXICO and Cobre (copper) on the underside of the front leg. Similar trays and bowls were manufactured by several Mexican silversmith studios, including Los Castillo, who operated in Taxco. Sculptural, decorative tray with elegant form, high quality craftsmanship, and statement piece presence will make a great gift to a collector or a design enthuseiast, and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Mid Century Modern, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Glam, Modern Country, Coastal, Collected, or Contemporary.
