About the Item

Pair of 19th century Italian Inlaid boxes in the Renaissance style. With wonderful geometric inlay, in various fruit woods, done to give the optical illusion of depth. The inlaid top framed by a rope form border with traces of gesso and pale yellow paint. It is very possible these boxes are period, dating to the 16th century. Because they have unfinished sides they were likely set into a larger box. When wood is preserved that way it often looks so fresh it's true age is not easily determined. Either way these are singular boxes with exquisite craftsmanship, small beautiful pieces that are a pleasure to look at and to handle. 3.2 inches wide 2.3 deep 1.5 high
