About the Item

This mother-of-pearl inlay perfume box is a rare and complete treasure from the famed Palais-Royal of France’s Second Empire. The box is a work of art, meticulously fashioned to delight a regal perfume connoisseur. The lid features a medallion with a hand-painted Orientalist scene, encircled by four smaller medallions adorned with delicately engraved floral designs. A stunning ormolu border embellished with Gothic festoons adorns the base, adding to its timeless charm. Within the box lies a collection of six flasks: three larger ones crafted from pink opaline glass, and three smaller crystal and gilt bronze vessels. Each flask showcases a matching Orientalist motif, while the lids are adorned with exquisite mother-of-pearl finials. Since the reign of Louis XIV, the Palais-Royal has been an illustrious and integral part of Parisian life. Under the rule of Louis Philippe II, the lavish palace transformed into Europe's paramount marketplace. The premier establishment flourished with the personal workshops of the world's finest artisans, cafés, hair salons, bookshops and museums. Enchanting royalty, courtiers and Europe's most affluent patrons, people flocked to obtain the most luxurious goods available in the world. Items from the Palais-Royal continue to epitomize the height of luxury and are highly prized by collectors today. Circa 1860 5 1/3“ high x 7 3/4” wide x 7 3/4“ deep
