A magnificent, fine and impressive, rare antique German cast sterling silver owl sugar box; part of our continental ornamental silverware collection. This magnificent and large antique cast German silver sugar box, in sterling standard, has been realistically modelled in form of an owl. This antique silver box has been embellished with fine details reproducing the plumage, in addition to the bird's anatomical features. This exceptional antique silver sugar box is fitted with the original push fit head/cover, retaining the original bead eyes. The hallmarks struck to the sleeve of the cover and body of this large sterling silver owl box include: Maker's mark: MS (untraced) City mark: Wertheim City, Germany* Importer's mark: GB (George Bedingham) Silver quality/purity mark: .925 (sterling, 925/1000)** Assay mark: Acorn (London, England) Date mark: G (1907) Such large examples are rare to the market; this magnificent box is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire.
