About the Item

This large mid nineteenth century marquetry box from the Napoleon III period features a burl thuya wood field surrounded by a concentric border of intricately inlaid ebonized pearwood, ivory, and rosewood. An ivory cartouche in the center of the lid is engraved with the name Lucie. Surrounding the cartouche is a field of ebonized pearwood inlaid with scrolling leaves and cornucopia in bronze. Bronze trim around the edges of the top lends additional detail. The inside of the box is lined with a tufted blue satin. An ideal piece for any collector or for use as a jewelry box. Includes one key with functioning lock. c. 1860.
