About the Item

A large octagonal form Chinese export tea caddy in black lacquer decorated throughout in gilt and red with figural garden scenes, pavilions, and dense scrolling foliage. The lid panel features a central cartouche with figures among architecture, surrounded by cloud and dragon scrollwork. The front carries a matching figural scene framed by a shaped reserve. Brass side handles and a keyhole escutcheon. The interior is lacquered black throughout.
