About the Item

This is a stunning, monumental silver-plated seven-light candelabra centrepiece, attributed to Elkington & Co, Circa 1860 in date. It is a superb quality, monumental seven-light cast candelabra with six rams head acanthus leaves and scroll arms and a central reeded stem. The candelabra is raised on a cast-shaped stepped tripod base decorated with three winged sea horses.   There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, and its rarity is sure to make it a treasured and interesting piece by any discerning collector. Condition: In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair. The firm was founded by George Richards Elkington and his brother, Henry Elkington, in the 1830s. It operated under the name G. R. Elkington & Co. until 1842, when a third partner, Josiah Mason, joined the firm. It operated as Elkington, Mason, & Co. until 1861, when the partnership with Mason was terminated. The firm operated independently as Elkington & Co. from 1861 until 1963. It was then taken over by British Silverware, Ltd. In 1971, British Silverware, Ltd. became a subsidiary of Delta Metal Co. Ltd. Over the course of history, it became very successful and was one of the prime producers of silver plating. Elkington received various royal warrants of appointment. One of their most famous pieces is the electrotype copy of the Jerningham Wine Cooler at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Our reference: A5341

This is a beautiful large pair of Swedish antique silver plated, five light, four-branch table candelabra by A. G. Dufva was a prominent 19th-century Swedish silver and silver plate manufacturer founded by Anders Gabriel Dufva in 1847 in Stockholm. Known for high-quality plated household items, cutlery, and decorative pieces, the company became a royal purveyor and operated until 1936. : Founded by  Anders Gabriel Dufva (1822–1897), a trained goldsmith who established his workshop on Drottninggatan. He was one of Sweden’s first manufacturers of silver-plated items, often producing intricate items in Art Nouveau style. It is stamped A.G.Dufva N.S. X which refers to Axel Gabriel Dufva, the mark "N.S." stands for Nysilver, which is Swedish for "new silver" or nickel silver (an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc, usually silver-plated).
