About the Item

This substantial Gothic Revival-style candle lantern captures the romantic spirit of 19th-century medieval-inspired lighting. Designed to echo the stone tracery and arched motifs of cathedral architecture, it combines functional elegance with architectural drama. The lantern’s triptych body comprises three clear glass panels, with the central panel serving as a hinged door for easy access to the candle plate. A secure metal latch ensures safe use. The top features vented chimney domes and a sturdy arched handle, making it suitable for hanging or carrying while maintaining a classic silhouette. Decorative pierced galleries run along the upper and lower edges of the frame, with a repeating scroll pattern that contrasts beautifully with the weighty cast iron. The lantern rests on four splayed decorative feet, adding both stability and aesthetic balance. Over time, the metal has developed a rich weathered patina, with surface rust that accentuates the depth of the casting and enhances its historical character. Condition The lantern is structurally sound. The glass panels are intact and clear. The interior base shows minor residual candle wax, consistent with its original use, and the cast iron frame has naturally aged with a warm, time-worn finish that highlights the Gothic Revival detailing. We ship internationally, tracked and insured.

Stunning, top quality made antique pendant in the Gothic style. If you are a collector of rare and ancient looking Gothic antiques then this large size and possibly one of a kind pendant could be flying your way soon. With antique light fixtures as one of our specialities, we know how rare Gothic lanterns are and to have found one of this age, size, beauty and quality more than made our day. Also, because this all hand-crafted specimen is, except for the glass, completely original and in superb condition. What makes this stylishly blackened specimen stand out from the other Gothic lights that we have sold over the years, is the thickness of the forged wrought iron parts and its relatively clean-lined design. The forged iron is thick and strong and that too is why this large lantern light...
