About the Item

Monumental 19th-century terracotta figural mantel clock modeled as an allegorical group representing Time and Cupid. The composition depicts a seated bearded male figure, identifiable as Father Time / Chronos, beside a winged putto traditionally understood as Cupid, creating a powerful neoclassical subject of considerable sculptural presence. Signed to the side “L. Royer f. 1847” and attributed to Louis Royer (1793–1868), the noted Dutch sculptor, whose works are held in the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The signature appears worked into the modeled surface, while the underside reveals a hollowed, hand-formed terracotta construction consistent with traditional 19th-century sculptural practice. The surface has a rich dark patina with a warm bronzed appearance, enhancing the sculptural character of the piece. The circular gilt-metal dial is set into the sculpted base, creating an unusual and successful union of fine sculpture and decorative horology. The clock is in working condition and running well at the time of cataloguing. A rare and highly decorative mantel clock of impressive scale, combining strong modeling, unusual allegorical iconography, and excellent visual impact. An exceptional object for collectors of neoclassical sculpture, important terracottas, and distinctive 19th-century European decorative arts. Condition: Very good antique condition with age-related wear, surface abrasions, and minor losses consistent with age and use. The hand-modeled terracotta shows expected firing and modeling irregularities inherent to the making process. There is a visible old loss or absent element at the hand area of the male figure, as shown in the photographs. The surface retains a rich, attractive patina throughout. The clock is in working condition and running well at the time of cataloguing. Needles to say that this stunning and one of a kind antique clock will never fail to impress. Rare Bronze & Black Marble Clock Set by Deniere A Paris the Philosopher, c.1860

Rare & fabulous Antique Napoleon lll clock garniture with incredible quality bronze sculptures. You will rarely see a clock garniture with bronzes of this quality and detail. The bearded thinker/philosopher on top of the marble clock is simply astonishing. His natural poisture, his hair, face and hands, but also his clothes, it is all of a quality and detail that only a master sculptor can achieve. And the patina also is just perfect. The philosopher is marked on the back and it reads 'BE x'. The two bronze female (classical maiden) sculptures are in fact two stunning candle holders and they too stand on beautifully shaped black marble bases with cartouches. These majestic candle holders are marked on the sides 'L.V.E. ROBERT' (Louis Valentin Elias Robert) and on the back they read 'AD x'. The black marble clock comes with a circular dial face with gilt Roman numerals and this clock has a well working movement. The movement is stamped 'DENIERE / A PARIS' and '2165'. On the bottom it reads A.Blacher and there also is a cachet with 'MEDAILLE D'OR / Paris / 1827'. If you like this one of a kind, clock set as much as we do then you will love our price. Especially, since perfect packing (in a custom made crate) and worldwide delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days are complimentary. Maximum clock height x width x depth: 22 x 17 x 8.5 inches. The large figure candle holders...
