Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this absolutely exquisite English Circa 1860 Crocodile or Alligator leather Writing slope storage box which unfolds with a silk lining A very good looking well made and decorative piece, the main body is Crocodile or Alligator leather as mentioned, this is a portable piece so it has a recessed campaign handle, the original key is present but the lock is temperamental so may work intermittently. The lining is black leather and green silk The piece opens up to reveal the first use which displays a three panel desk top with a compartment for pens and quills, you then spin the piece around which allows the lid to become a writing slope, the main body opens up to display document storage The condition is period and wonderful, we have cleaned waxed and polished the leather, there will be normal age and use related patina marks Dimensions Height:- 10cm Width:- 30.5cm Depth:- 24cm extending to 48cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.

Impressive Victorian writing slope or travel desk - attributed to the famous company of Thompson - from the period around 1800 - 1815 in the United Kingdom. This fantastic Captain’s campaign writing slope dates back to the Napoleonic wars. Well constructed out of solid mahogany with screwed down mount re-enforcements, brass banding, and inset carrying handles at each end, this outstanding travel desk box was designed to withstand the harsh maritime life at sea. The exterior of this Victorian travel box shows an attractive mahogany grain, beautiful colour, and a lovely pleasing patina. There are a couple of old indented scars to the lid along with the usual minor surface scratching, but these imperfections confer it an absolutely unique charme. The box has a tri-fold operation, opening to reveal a secondary smaller writing surface for quick use, then opening again to reveal the main slope fitted with a green felt writing surface which is in reasonable condition and compliments the original interior. When it is completely opened you have two storage compartments underneath. The original lock works smoothly with the original key. The original interior is nicely fitted out with a dark green leather drop-down section in the lid which features four memoire pockets. This section can additionally be lowered to reveal a document wallet...
