Antique Black Perspex Bakelite Pyramid 162 Telephone 1937

About the Item

This is a rare GPO series 162 telephone, dated 1937 in black Perspex Bakelite and manufactured by The Pyramid Telephone Manufacturing Co Ltd. The Telephone 162 was the first to be adopted by the British Post Office in 1929. It was based on a design from Siemens Brothers which they chose to call the 'Neophone'. The model standardised by the BPO had minor differences and went by a more prosaic name of the 'Microtelephone'. The 162 requires a separate bell set, not having an internal bell and this is housed in the lower part. This is one of the best Bakelite telephones in the 1930`s Its internal circuits are completely original & fully refurbished . It bears the GPO marks , serial numbers & Made in England mark under the handset & on the base. This is an original telephone - not a replica. Please note that the phone has been converted for use with today's BT plugs. Condition: In excellent condition, please see photos for confirmation.
