About the Item

Bronze sculpture circa 1925. Crested Tit on an onyx base. Signed on the base: M. Guillemard. In perfect condition. Total height: 44.5 cm Sculpture width: 46.5 cm Base width: 14 cm Base depth: 14 cm Weight: 5.1 kg Marcel Joseph Henri Guillemard was a French decorative artist and designer, born on September 2, 1886, in Paris[1] and died on December 19, 1932, in Avon. He established himself as the first emblematic designer and interior decorator of the Primavera workshop at the Printemps department stores. He championed individual comfort as a luxury that should be a given in all homes. His interest in the mass production of furniture introduced so-called modern works into homes. His inspiration was drawn from the discoveries of Cubism, which he practiced with restraint and a rare sense of moderation. Marcel Guillemard, possessing the spirit of a soldier-monk, was deeply involved in the ambitions of the Primavera studio, whose sole purpose he shared. He recruited Louis Sognot, whose mutual inspiration would often lead to confusion in identifying some of their creations. His untimely death on December 19, 1932, robbed him of his destiny, just as he was about to join the Union of Modern Artists.
