The colored glass is encased in a layer clear glass in sommerso technique, adding depth and complexity to the piece. The bird is sitting on sculptural, rounded base, done in clear glass with gold flecks, elevating it without adding a visually heavy element. The main color is referred to as "Ruby Red" in Weil's catalogue of Alfredo Barbini Murano glass.
