About the Item

This exceptional French Art Deco ceramic Skye Terrier sculpture by Santiago Rodriguez Bonome, created in France during the 1920s, is a striking example of early 20th-century decorative artistry. Measuring 9.65 inches (24.5 cm) in height, 14.2 inches (36 cm) in width, and 5.1 inches (13 cm) in depth, the piece features elegant lines and a refined silhouette characteristic of the Art Deco movement. The sculpture is signed with the incised mark “SR BONOME PARIS” beneath the belly, confirming its authenticity and Parisian origin. Santiago Rodriguez Bonome (1901–1995) was a Spanish-born sculptor who developed his craft from a very young age. Initially trained in traditional religious workshops, he quickly gained recognition for his talent and dedication. By the 1920s, Bonome was exhibiting internationally, including in Madrid, Barcelona, Venice, and Buenos Aires, where he achieved significant commercial success. His move to Paris in 1929 marked a turning point, allowing him to collaborate with prominent publishers and expand his artistic reach. Bonome’s works are held in major museum collections across Europe, including prestigious institutions in Paris, Madrid, and Spain, underscoring his importance in modern sculpture and decorative arts. Following World War II, he transitioned toward cast iron and ceramic creations, further diversifying his artistic output. This Skye Terrier sculpture perfectly embodies Bonome’s ability to blend realism with stylized Art Deco aesthetics. Its elongated form, smooth glaze, and poised stance make it a desirable collectible for enthusiasts of vintage ceramics, Art Deco sculpture, and animal figurines. Ideal as a statement decorative object or a valuable addition to a curated collection, this rare piece captures both artistic heritage and timeless elegance.
