About the Item

An exceptional example of Scandinavian mid-century ceramic artistry, the Kokos vase by Hjördis Oldfors for Upsala Ekeby designed in 1954, embodies the designer’s mastery of form, texture, and restraint. The elegant ovoid silhouette is enriched by finely incised vertical ribs that create a rhythmic surface, lending the piece a remarkable sense of depth and movement. Finished in a sophisticated brown glaze with subtle warm undertones, the vase evokes the natural texture of a coconut shell from which it takes its name. Both sculptural and functional, Kokos stands as a testament to Oldfors’ refined aesthetic and Upsala Ekeby’s celebrated craftsmanship. A rare and highly collectible design, it makes a striking statement in both modern and curated interiors. The Cocos-serie was only in production in 1954. This is the largest vase in the serie with model number 5031. It is 25.5 cm high and in very good condition except from some minor scratches in the decor.
