Inspired by late 18th- and early 19th-century Neoclassical and Empire design, these sculptural palms reference antiquity’s fascination with the palm as a symbol of victory, endurance, and cultivated refinement. Each palm is constructed of hand-cut and shaped tole metal, with layered fronds radiating outward from a central spear. The leaves are individually articulated, creating a dynamic, naturalistic silhouette while retaining the stylized restraint characteristic of Neoclassical ornament. The surface has developed a nuanced, time-softened patina in muted silvery-gray and warm oxidized tones, enhancing the sculptural depth and lending the pieces a distinctly architectural presence. The trunks are formed from twisted metal stems, a classical decorative device that adds vertical rhythm and visual strength while subtly echoing ancient columnar forms. These stems rise from square urn-form bases, which are decorated in relief with classical motifs, including garlands, anthemion-inspired borders, and central lyre emblems—iconography closely associated with Apollo, the arts, and harmony.
