About the Item

A 7 3/4" high small petite statue of a young male figure sculpture on 3" x 3" stand -- this 19th century Italian bronze putto is partially covered with a cloth holding possibly a torch in one hand at one time. Originally limited to profane passions in symbolism, putti came to represent the sacred cherub, and in Baroque art the putto represents the omnipresence of God. This is a fine cast with wonderfully original aged verdigris patina, the face and hair is beautifully realized and the body is ideal in proportions.
