Unit Of Mother Functional Sculpture in Oak & Concrete by Alun Heslop Unique Dimensions: D 65 x W 95 x H 205 cm Materials: carved,weather blasted and bleached oak wood, hollow cast bronze, cast and carved concrete As we breathe into life within the realms of possibility lies a path of probable manifestation — the shape of the journey as the way emerges. From the ground below we are all connected. So it’s a tree? Isn’t that a little naive? Well, yes in one sense it is. We have the trunk — made of the mighty oak. Rooted to the ground in cast bronze. The fruits, the offering on full display in the spread of the cloud canopy above cast and carved in concrete. What of the portal/gateway to the other side — the aperture in which we can peer through yet seemingly cannot pass. Precious perceived value risen up, where everything is connected. What is solid and what is not? Where is the sense of origin? Easy to overlook, where all is before us in the everyday. So isn’t it just a freestanding display table for all to see? It is one thing to have an idea in one’s mind of a form through a sense of movement, it is another thing altogether to be able to translate that concept into a manifest reality. Visionary imagination combined with excellence in craftsmanship and design turns each shape into a flowing form, a dance of light and shadow, that equate to a sublime expression that is far more than the sum of it's parts would otherwise suggest. Within the Landscape of Invention fluid movement rises and turns through an ever-changing array of profiles. Through the shape of the journey where does one edge start and another stop? It doesn't, it simply transcends from light into shadow. A Landscape in motion does not exist in isolation. It is the theatre and the flowing fabric of the dynamic world we see around us. From Ideas into Reality. One way in which new works can exist is through the process of commissioning a piece or project. It is an exciting and unique opportunity to have something designed and created that fits and performs perfectly for its intended location and usage. It is a way in which new, inspirational work can be developed and brought into existence. More often or not there is a desire for a creative solution to address a practical requirement or application. Good design is a dialogue, a conversation, a journey and the chance to explore the perfect blend of form and function. Listening, understanding and addressing a client’s wishes to create the perfect solution that will enrich and enlighten. Each piece or project is generally a unique undertaking in its own right and as such will have its own set of variables and criteria.
