One of the most renowned sculptures ever created by Robert Tait McKenzie, this medal depicting three nude male hurdlers represents, in miniature form, a relief created in 1912 for the facade of the Olympic stadium in Stockholm. McKenzie was, for many years, the world's leading sculptor of young athletes, and he often used student athletes at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Professor of Physical Education, as his models. Signed Etling France In perfect condition Measures: Height: 22.5cm Diameter: 6.2cm Weight: 700 Grams Lucille Sévin is a French sculptor, active from 1920 to 1940. Lucille Sévin made many chryselephantine sculptures in the Art Deco style, using materials such as bronze, silver or gold, and ivory. His work was skillfully implemented and distributed by art publisher Edmond Etling. For a time, Sévin was artistic director of the Etling company. Her husband, the sculptor Jean Théodore Delabassé, also worked for Etling. Sévina also worked with glass, ceramics and porcelain. Her sculptures of dancers in frosted and iridescent milky glass like Isadora Duncan of 1925 were made for Etling in a glass factory in Choisy-le-Roi. Sévin exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists in Paris and became a member of the Society. Lucille Sévin won the bronze medal in 1932 and the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris 1937. She also exhibited her works at the Society of the Salon d'Automne in Paris. Edmond Laurent Etling (before 1909 – around 1940) was a French art dealer, gallery owner, designer, and a manufacturer of high-quality decorative objects made of bronze, ceramics and art glass in the Art Deco style. He owned La Societe Anonyme Edmond Etling (English: Edmond Etling Limited Company) for manufacturing, his foundry was named Edmond Etling & Cie, and sometimes the products are referred to as "Etling Glass...

A rare and fabulous French Art Deco large bronze signed sculpture of a bunting panther by Andre Vincent Becquerel, French, 1893-1981 This lovely cast, in a warm dark brown patina with green undertones is sculpted with highly stylized anatomical details. The sculpture rests on self base. Becquerel's favorite subject matter was cats. He often captured them in a natural setting, stretching, stalking, clawing at a tree stump or walking in tandem. The model offered here with the panther bunting/rubbing against a stump of a tree is a rare version. This innate feline behavior is seen as a sign of affection, or of a transfer of their scent to claim territory or marking you as a friend. Becquerel was born in northern France. He attended the École des Beaux-arts in Paris and studied in the ateliers of Hector Lemaître and Prosper Lecourtier, the Animalier sculptor. He also worked with Charles Valton, who had studied under both Barye and Fremiet, two other renown animalier sculptors. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1914 and continued to do so for the rest of his career. In 1944 Becquerel was awarded a bronze medal by The ‘Artistes Français’ and a gold medal in 1945. In 1952 he won the Prix de l’Yser, which made him hors concours and thus above the future competition process.
