About the Item

A finely executed Japanese cloisonné enamel vase, standing 12 inches tall and signed with the Andō mark on the base. The decoration is executed entirely in silver wire, a hallmark of higher grade Andō studio production, allowing for exceptional delicacy and tonal control throughout the composition. The vase is set on a refined silver gray ground of remarkable uniformity and depth. The surface is adorned with a naturalistic scene of a bird perched on a flowering plum branch, accompanied by bamboo below. The plum blossoms are rendered in soft white and cream tones with pale yellow centers, their rounded petals subtly modeled through carefully shaded enamels contained within fine silver cloisons. The bamboo leaves are crisply articulated, providing a linear counterpoint to the organic branching above. The bird is particularly well observed, with sensitively graduated plumage and a quiet sense of stillness that reflects Andō’s painterly approach to enamel. The restrained use of color and the generous negative space allow the composition to breathe, emphasizing elegance over density. The enamel surface is smooth and luminous, demonstrating a high level of technical refinement consistent with Andō’s late Meiji to Taishō period output. The exclusive use of silver wire places this vase above standard production examples and firmly within the realm of serious collector material. A refined and highly collectible work, representative of Andō’s mastery of subtle naturalism, tonal harmony, and technical precision in Japanese cloisonné enamel.
