About the Item

This wonderful hand hammered brass vase or decorative cup from the Jugendstil period is rich in character. The ovoid form cup is raised on a stepped base; each are ornamented with a band of rivet form decoration characteristic, a motif that resonates with decoration common in the Jugendstil period and other regional expressions of the Art Nouveau style, while also nodding toward early modernism and the machine age aesthetic. The piece has a rich, variegated patina that speaks to its age and history; the brass is warm and rich, and there are distinct areas of distressing that add a great deal of character to the piece. This Jugendstil vase or cup would make a striking accent piece in an interior with well appointed vintage; with its warm brass patina, this piece would look at home amidst distressed leathers, natural fibers, and rich wood tones.
