About the Item

A fine pair of ormolu amphora-shaped urns standing on marble pedestals, late 18th century or Empire period circa 1800. High end production attributed to French bronze maker Claude Galle : finely chiseled Empire friezes, gilt finish, two subtly shaped handles held by chimera heads (half lion / half goat fantastic animals). Elegant neoclassical decoration pieces, stunning on a mantel piece or a large commode on either side of a clock. Original mercury gilt has been very well preserved after over 200 years.
