A spectacular collection of three painted and gilded blue opaline glass urns was created in Germany between 1845 and 1855. More photos may be provided if necessary. With hope and love. Ash About the artist: MEYER, Johann Georg, commonly known as ‘Meyer von Bremen,’ German painter: b. Bremen, 28 Oct. 1813; d. Berlin. 4 Dec. 1886. In his 2lst year, he went to Düsseldorf and began his studies under Sohn and Schadow; in 1841 he opened a studio of his own but removed to Berlin as his fame increased (1853). While scenes from the Bible were first the subjects of his brush, he later turned his attention to incidents of popular life, especially among the Hessian peasantry, and finally to the portrayal of family life in its pathetic aspect. Such pictures as ‘The Jubilee of a Hessian Pastor’ (1843); ‘Christmas Eve’; ‘Blindman's Buff’; ‘The Soldier's Return’; ‘The Inundation’ (1846); ‘The Repentant Daughter’ (1852, in the gallery at Bremen), are full of intense sympathy with the ‘simple annals of the poor.’ After taking up his residence in Berlin, he chose especially scenes from child life, which he rendered with spirited humor. Among his pictures of this kind are ‘The Fairy Tale’; ‘Children Playing Blindman's Buff’; ‘Grandfather and Grandchild,’ etc. The third group of his pictures includes those of young women, as single figures or in groups. Such is ‘The Tryst’; ‘The Love Letter.’ An excellent example of his work, ‘The Letter’ (1873), is in the Metropolitan Museum, New York. All his works are distinguished by true human feeling, truthfulness, and thoroughness of execution. Storyteller: Just as Dr. James was leaving the hospital for the day, when he got a call from a buddy who needed immediate medical assistance. He rushed to his friend's side, only to discover that he had a terrible illness. Dr. James and his healthcare staff saved the life of a long-time friend by performing an emergency surgery on the spot. Dr. James was astounded by the recuperative powers of the human body as he saw his friend get better over the next few weeks. About a year later, Dr. James's buddy presented him with an unexpected gift: three beautiful urns made of blue opaline glass. To show his appreciation, his buddy had commissioned the set to be produced and had them engraved with the words "toll paid here." The mysterious writing on the urns impressed Dr. James, who was moved by the kind gesture. After doing some digging, he discovered that ancient tolls were frequently paid for with things other than money, most commonly cattle and crops. The note represented his friend's gratitude and served as a timely reminder that good acts tend to be repaid in kind. Dr. James treasured the trio of urns as a constant reminder of the life he had helped preserve and the friendship that had only grown closer in the face of tragedy. The urns served as a constant reminder of the value of compassion and the necessity of aiding the less fortunate. The trio of urns, crafted from opaque blue opaline glass, became a symbol of the restorative power of empathy and a testimony to the everlasting links that unite us all, well beyond their aesthetic value.
