About the Item

Large antique Delftware lidded vase, produced in the Netherlands during the first half of the 18th century. The vessel is decorated in traditional cobalt blue on a white tin-glazed ground. The front features an elaborate central cartouche with a classical vase motif, floral sprays, and scrolling ornamentation. The body is enriched with raised molded elements and hand-painted decorative details. The lid is surmounted by a sculptural bird finial, adding strong visual character. This element was restored in the past after losses to part of the body and tail, as documented in the photographs. The underside bears a hand-painted signature or mark in cobalt. The weight, texture of the ceramic body, and the presence of age-related imperfections confirm its authentic early manufacture. 18th Century Persian Blue and White Glazed Stoneware Vase

18th Century Persian Blue and White Glazed Stoneware Vase

Located in SANT ADRIÀ DE BESÒS, ES

An antique Persian blue and white glazed stoneware vase, probably dating to the 18th century, produced during the late Safavid to early Qajar period. The vessel features a rounded body rising from a ring foot to a short sloping shoulder and slightly raised rim. The exterior is decorated in cobalt blue under a white glaze with stylized floral, geometric, and arabesque motifs characteristic of Persian ceramic traditions influenced by both Islamic ornament and earlier Chinese blue and white porcelain. Particularly notable is the fluid quality of the cobalt decoration, with visible tonal bleeding and expressive brushwork across the surface. The lower section retains areas of exposed buff earthenware, creating a strong visual contrast with the vivid cobalt ornamentation above. The vase displays pronounced glaze craquelure, firing irregularities, and surface variations consistent with early handmade production. Comparable examples of related Persian blue and white pottery are represented in museum and specialist collections focusing on Safavid and early Qajar ceramics...
