About the Item

This is a limited edition porcelain vase by Alvar Sunol Munoz-Ramos. Titled "The Four Elements of Nature" this example is numbered 10 out of 70 near the signature. The decoration contemplates the classic theme of the four elements of nature: earth, water, fire, and air. The vase's bas-relief design beautifully displays Alvar's unique interpretation, rhythmically incorporating romantic figures and objects. The vase is substantial, measuring just over 10 inches in diameter and nearly 17" high. There are no chips, cracks or repairs on this piece, but there are some minor discolorations and surface blemishes--but nothing that detracts from the overall presentation of this stately creation. About Alvar Suñol Muñoz-Ramos: Commonly known as Alvar, he was born in 1935 in Montgat, Spain, a Catalan fishing village on the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona. At the age of 17, he was admitted to the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona. In 1960, he moved to Paris and exhibited alongside other great Spanish artists such as Picasso, Miró, and Dalí. Today, Alvar is recognized internationally and has works in permanent collections of more than fourteen museums worldwide.
