An exceptional, unusual and rare antique George III English Newcastle sterling silver sugar vase; an addition to our Newcastle silverware collection. This exceptional antique Georgian sterling silver vase has a bell-shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot and square base. The body of the antique silver vase is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved garland decoration, incorporating a shield shaped cartouche to one side. The cartouche is encompassed with a fabric swag style border and ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved initials 'TR'. The rim of the body is further ornamented with an applied reed decorated border. This Newcastle silver sugar vase retains the original hallmarked domed push fit cover, embellished with a bright cut engraved decorated border. The cover is surmounted with an exceptional cast and applied finial, modelled in the form of a griffin rampant. The vessel is supported by a plain waisted pedestal and square base, each ornamented with further engraved decoration. This exceptional Georgian sugar vase, crafted by the renowned Newcastle silversmiths John Langlands I & John Robertson I, is an unusual and rare example to locate from this provincial city. The antique sterling silver sugar vase combines functional tableware design with traditional silversmithing craftsmanship, resulting in an object of both decorative and historical value. The sterling silver construction provides durability, reflective surface quality and long-term material stability, while the vase form reflects the formal dining customs of its period. An exceptional, fine and impressive, antique Victorian English sterling silver cup; an addition to our Victorian silverware collection This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver presentation cup has a campania shaped form to a circular domed foot. The bulbous, shaped lower portion of this silver cup is embellished with impressive chased and embossed leaf and floral decoration. The plain tapering surface of the cup incorporates the contemporary engraved coat of arms depicting a chevron between three roses, barbed, seeded on a chief of the second a lion passant guardant between two closed books paleways, clasped and garnished of the last, the clasps to the dexter, all above the motto 'Virtus vera nobilitas' - Virtue is true nobility*. An exceptional, fine and impressive antique German sterling silver cup and cover; an addition to our antique presentation silverware collection. This exceptional antique German sterling silver cup & cover has a bulbous circular shaped form onto a shaped pedestal foot. The lobed body of the cup is embellished with chased decorated scenes incorporating: a putto raising a glass and playing a musical instrument, a stag, a unicorn and an elephant. The upper portion of the body is encompassed with a paralleling cast and applied stylised rope twist border, accented with a collet set round faceted cut gemstone to each incurve, with a scrolling leaf decorated bracket to the underside. This impressive presentation cup retains the original hallmarked cover, ornamented with a continuation of the leaf bracket to each incurve, in addition to a reflection of chased decorated scenes. The cover is surmounted with an exceptional cast figural finial comprised of a putto figure holding a glass and cluster of grapes, sat to a large plain ball. The impressive baluster shaped pedestal is encompassed to the upper portion with four semi-circular shaped bifurcating bracket designs, each accent with a further collet set gem. A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver vase with military interest (Durham Light Infantry); an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian sterling silver vase has a tapering cylindrical form to a domed circular spreading foot. The upper and lower portions of the body of the vase are embellished with embossed and chased stylized scrolling leaf and bead decoration in a swirl design. The body is further ornamented with a band of six cartouches amidst a shaped border accented with a leaf motif between each; four of the cartouches remain vacant. To one side there is a contemporary bright cut engraved crest of the Durham Light Infantry amidst the inscription ‘Presented to Officers, 3rd Bn, The Durham Light Infantry’, with the presentation inscription ‘Officers Race, won by, Lieut H J Sowerby, 1887’ to the other side. The upper rim of this impressive vase is encircled with an applied moulded border to the rim. The vase retains the original gilt interior. In 1758 General John Lambton of County Durham first raised the 68th Regiment of Foot as part of the British Army. A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique Edwardian English sterling silver cup & cover; an addition to our antique presentation silverware collection. This magnificent and large antique Edwardian sterling silver presentation cup and cover has a Campania shaped form onto a circular spreading pedestal foot. The lower bulbous portion of the silver cup is encircled with chased fluted ornamentation. Either side of the plain upper portion of the body of this cup is embellished with an exceptional and large applied ribbon tied laurel branch wreath, replicating the border of a classic cartouche. This impressive Edwardian presentation cup retains the impressive, original hallmarked push fit cover surmounted with an exceptional, fine and impressive cast sterling silver overlapping leaf and bud style finial. The rim of this substantial cover is encompassed with an impressive applied egg and dart decorated border. This antique cup and cover is fitted with two very impressive cast sterling silver handles modelled in the form of conjoined snakes, above a figural mask and Caduceus. The pedestal is encompassed with a shaped alternating leaf decorated knop to the upper portion in junction with the body. The circular domed spreading foot is encircled with a further band of chased fluted ornamentation. Such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate.
