About the Item

Titled Lupara, this hand-blown glass vase is designed as a decorative object designed to structure a contemporary interior through light, transparency, and material presence. Both delicate and expressive, it asserts a sculptural identity while allowing glass to function as a primary ornamental medium. Conceived as a collectible piece of French contemporary design, the vase was designed by Pierre Marie and hand-blown by Atelier Gamil, a French workshop recognized for its expertise in artisanal glassmaking. The blown glass form emphasizes balance, fluidity, and luminosity, allowing subtle variations of thickness and reflection to animate the surface. This vase was developed in the context of Lupara, an exhibition in which Pierre Marie drew inspiration from the Louvre under Louis XIV. At that time, the lavish decorative programs designed by figures such as Le Vau and Le Brun were conceived to anchor royal power through architecture and ornament. Within the Lupara installation, furniture, lighting, textiles, and glass works formed a coherent decorative ensemble. The vase participated in this narrative alongside wrought-iron candelabras with bronzine finishes, a mirror with reverse-painted motifs echoing those of a flat-weave rug woven by Manufacture Robert Four, blown glass pieces, and a stained-glass window featuring Apollo-like suns—offering a contemporary reinterpretation of the Grand Siècle infused with references to 1940s decorative language. This piece reflects Pierre Marie Studio’s approach to decorative arts, where narration, historical reference, and craftsmanship are brought together through contemporary forms. Glass is treated not only as a vessel, but as a material capable of structuring light, rhythm, and ornamental presence within an interior. Pierre Marie Studio is a multidisciplinary design studio based in Paris, dedicated to French contemporary design and the renewal of decorative arts. Rooted in the practice of artist-decorator Pierre Marie, the studio develops collectible objects, interiors, and decorative art pieces in close collaboration with master craftsmen.
