About the Item

A refined French Art Nouveau glass vase by François‑Théodore Legras, dating from the early 20th century. This elegant square diabolo-form soliflore vase features an opaque glass body in ochre and deep red tones, richly decorated with a delicate hand-enameled winter landscape. The composition reflects the poetic naturalism typical of Art Nouveau decorative arts, with finely painted seasonal motifs and subtle tonal contrasts that enhance the sculptural form of the vase. The piece is signed “Legras” within the decoration (visible though difficult to photograph), confirming its attribution to one of the most important French art glass makers of the period. Height: 7.3 in (18.5 cm) Width: 1.7 in (4.4 cm) Depth: 1.7 in (4.4 cm) Very good overall condition. A few tiny enamel lacks near the rim, likely occurring during the manufacturing process, consistent with the age and technique. François‑Théodore Legras (1839–1916) was a leading figure in French Art Nouveau glassmaking. He directed the glassworks in Saint-Denis near Paris, producing a wide range of artistic glass known for its enameled landscapes, naturalistic motifs, cameo decoration, and innovative color effects. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Legras’ workshops created highly decorative vases and tableware inspired by nature, seasons, and atmospheric landscapes. Today, Legras art glass is increasingly sought after by collectors of Art Nouveau decorative arts, appreciated for its craftsmanship, poetic imagery, and distinctive palette.
