About the Item

This large and striking vase -- the first example we have seen -- depicts a frieze-like line of golden parakeets or small parrots arrayed against a deep blue ground of flower forms. The relief is high and bold, and the glazes are further enriched by a fine craquelure effect, something that some of France's leading ceramicists favored in the 1920s and 30s. Although it is not signed, the vase is clearly by a master working in a stylized manner which we could call Art Deco today.
