About the Item

This glazed ceramic vase was produced in the 1930s–1940s by the Faïencerie de Sainte-Radegonde under the artistic direction of Gustave Asch. The piece is finished in Asch’s distinctive cobalt “Tours Blue” glaze — a rich, deeply saturated blue with subtle tonal variation that became a hallmark of the workshop near Tours. Characterized by its sculptural form and applied clay loops, the vase reflects the evolution of Sainte-Radegonde ceramics from traditional figurative faience into more modern decorative design. The pottery workshop, historically recogniSed for sculpture and ceramics in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, gained international attention following the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris.
