About the Item

Daenerys Sluijk Vulva Vase — Objects of Dialogue Each vase begins long before the clay is touched. It starts as an idea — a reflection on femininity, nature, and the stories that shape our perception of the female body. Every piece is entirely handcrafted by ceramic artist Daenerys Sluijk. Working with traditional slab-building techniques, she slowly transforms raw clay into sculptural forms that balance strength and softness. What begins as a simple cylindrical structure gradually evolves into an expressive organic silhouette, inspired by the natural curves of the female body. The process is deliberately slow. Each form is shaped by hand, refined, and allowed to dry gradually before undergoing multiple firings. This careful approach preserves the integrity of the piece while ensuring exceptional craftsmanship and longevity. From the initial concept to the final firing, a single vase requires approximately 115 hours to complete. The resulting works transcend functionality. They exist at the intersection of art, design, and social commentary. Founded in 2023, Daenerys Sluijk's studio practice centers around creating sculptural ceramics that challenge conventions and invite dialogue. Her work draws inspiration from both nature and the female form, exploring themes of identity, vulnerability, strength, and the historical suppression of women's bodies. By embracing forms that are often considered provocative and thought-provoking, Sluijk invites viewers to reconsider established perceptions of the female body. Her work seeks to foster dialogue, celebrate individuality, and encourage a deeper appreciation of both vulnerability and strength. Each sculpture is created exclusively by the artist and produced in highly limited numbers, making every piece unique. More than decorative objects, these works are intended as conversation pieces — sculptural statements that captivate attention, inspire curiosity, and invite reflection. Behind every piece lies a story, and within every story lies an opportunity to discover beauty, meaning, and perspective. Objects of Dialogue - Vulva Vase will be available in a limited number of 50 vases made to order
