About the Item

Rosenthal Studio-Line porcelain vase from the Künstler-Sammel-Serie, featuring HAP Grieshaber’s black “Pastorale” decoration on the Duo form designed by Ambrogio Pozzi. Grieshaber’s stylised birds, figures and foliage wrap around the white cylindrical body. The expressive black design contrasts with Pozzi’s simple, balanced form, while the satin-silver metal base gives the vase a clean finish. The vase has a slim profile that fits easily on a shelf, console or sideboard. It is a strong example of Rosenthal’s collaborations between international artists and designers during the 1970s. Rosenthal Studio-Line stamp and Artist-Collection-Line label beneath the base. HAP Grieshaber (1909–1981), whose full name was Helmut Andreas Paul Grieshaber, was a leading German postwar artist. Best known for his large-format colour woodcuts, he exhibited at documenta three times and represented Germany at the 1962 Venice Biennale. Ambrogio Pozzi (1931–2012) was an Italian ceramicist and industrial designer known for clear, functional forms. His designs for Rosenthal brought a restrained Italian modernist character to the company’s artist editions.
